Deadline Nears for Oklahoma Centennial Poster Contest
Young Oklahomans have only four more weeks to express their artistic abilities while commemorating the state’s first 100 years. Oklahoma students, grades 4-12, are invited to enter the Oklahoma Centennial Poster Contest by submitting an 8 _½” x 11”poster that reflects the Centennial theme, “Celebrate Oklahoma! A Unique History. An Extraordinary Future.” All entries must be received by March 1, 2007.
The contest is open to public, private, charter and home school students throughout Oklahoma. Posters can be created in any single media, such as pencil, crayons, markers, charcoal, pastels, watercolor, oil, etc. Mixed media entries will not be accepted. To learn more about Oklahoma’s distinct history and its bright future, students are encouraged to visit www. oklahomahistorycenter.org, The Oklahoman archives and www.okhighered.org/edge. The top ten students from each level of competition - Grade School (grades 4-6), Junior High (grades 7-9) and High School (grades 10-12) - will receive contributions in their names to the Oklahoma College Savings Plan. Contributions will range from $100 to $1,000. First-place winning posters in each category will be published in The Oklahoman, and all winning posters will be posted online. Additionally, teachers of the winning students will be awarded a gift certificate to Sexton & Sexton School Supply. Contest winners will be announced in April 2007. “The Oklahoma Centennial Poster Contest is a wonderful educational project that allows young Oklahomans to learn more about our exciting state,” said J. Blake Wade, executive director of the Oklahoma Centennial Commission. “We encourage all eligible students and their teachers to participate in our Centennial commemoration.”
