What Are YOU Waiting For?
By Carolyn S. Peterson

We all come to that proverbial fork in the road of Life.  For Donna Pedroso, personal trainer, her fork was twofold.  “I had always loved running and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but I was diagnosed with lupus in 2008 and not long after, in 2009, I was hit by a truck, literally, while stopped at a school crossing waiting for my daughter. After two years of losing the ‘me’ I knew mentally and physically, I decided to make a change and take back control of my life and my body, to the extent that I could, with the issues of my lupus and the injuries from the truck accident,” recalled Donna.
Seeing & Feeling is Believing
As Donna chose the fork in the road that was definitely the most difficult, she saw results in all areas of her life and set her goals a little bit higher than most.  “Physically, I had really gotten out of shape and I was dealing with depression and self esteem problems.  I didn’t like where I was in my life so I decided to find my groove again and stop the pity party, and I began working out with a personal trainer. The physical transformation was great but the mental changes that I experienced meant so much to me.  Once again I felt good about myself and who I was.  As I was approaching my 50th birthday in November of 2011, I set my goal to competing in the NPC Elite Figure competition and I placed 10th!” Donna said.  With her renewed belief in herself, she had insight into making a difference in others’ lives.  “When I saw the impact and difference that working with my personal trainer had on me, I thought ‘if he can do that for me, I want to do that for others.’  So I got certified as a personal trainer and began teaching my classes this past year,” commented Donna.  All of this is in addition to being a wife, mom and having a full time job...whew!
A Different and Positive Approach to Fitness
Knowing what making a commitment to a workout routine can do for one’s life, Donna Pedroso founded Xtreme Remedies Fitness.  “My class sizes are small in order for me to provide a personal training environment in a group setting.  People are more likely to continue with their commitment to working out if they know someone is waiting for them, keeping them accountable, which the group setting also encourages.  I know each person’s name, their abilities, any physical challenges they have, and also the goal they have in mind,” Donna said.
To make sure that no one has an excuse to not exercise, Donna makes the process just about as easy as it can be.  “I ask that the participants bring 2 sets of weights, a light set and a heavier set and a mat, but if this is not possible, I have the equipment on hand.  I monitor their improvement week by week, month by month, with measurements, so we can track the changes in their bodies and I never ask anyone who is not comfortable in weighing to get on a scale.  My classes are about focusing on the individual and their needs and goals, and we all get to those goals differently.  I think ‘out of the box’ with the workouts, so boredom is not an issue.  With a cost of $5 for an hour, I really try to take any excuses out of the equation when deciding to work out,” stated Donna.
