Sharyn Frith
Not only has Sharyn faithfully and effectively advocated for her CASA kids, but she has also assisted in training other CASA volunteers. She has helped teach the second half of the “Child’s Perspective” class by sharing her very personal story of having been a child of the system. Because Sharyn can truly say: “Been there, done that,” her compassion for the children is clearly evident in every aspect of her advocacy efforts.
Sharyn brings such a full perspective to the table as a CASA volunteer. Not only was she a child of the system, she also had the experience of having her two grandchildren live with her for eight months while their mother was involved in the system. Thus, Sharyn got to experience being a placement provider and interacting with the Child Protective Services agency.
In addition to advocating for children and helping train volunteers, Sharyn has shared her artistic talent by decorating wooden reindeer for the annual Reindeer on Parade fundraiser since she became a CASA volunteer in August of 2002. She has done this at her own personal expense, furnishing ornately adorned reindeer one of which took an enormous amount of time as it was covered with cut glass. But Sharyn didn’t stop there she also helped by taking shifts at our Reindeer Store, helping make our fundraiser a remarkable success.
Sharyn has donated hundreds of hours in service to the children she has represented. Of course, this doesn’t include the many hours she has labored in fundraising and in training other child advocates. Like many of our amazing CASA volunteers, Sharyn has a full-time job, which makes her prodigious efforts all the more remarkable.
“Sincere” and Sharyn share an “S” as their first letter. While all of our volunteers are sincere in their efforts, Sharyn’s involvement in so many aspects of the CASA Program demonstrates the very highest level of sincerity. Judge Stephen Alcorn of the Oklahoma County Juvenile Court honored Sharyn at a court hearing in 2004 as CASA of the Day for including photos of her children in her court report. “It makes me happy to see pictures of the children when they can’t be present for the hearing,” remarked Judge Alcorn. This special touch by Sharyn Frith is a graphic reflection of the sincerity she consistently displays in advocating for the best interests of children.
“With thousands of children having no one to represent their best efforts,” Sharyn remarked: “I’d like to invite other concerned citizens to join me in helping abused and neglected children get the fairest treatment possible.” Interested persons can contact Alex Corbitt at 713-6607 or on the Internet: www.okcountycasa.org.
