Teen Resolutions for 2012

Forsyth Family Magazine (NC) Jan 2012

We’ve taken that leap into the year 2012 and shocker, the world is still here! The holidays are coming to an end, which saddens most of Forsyth County, including myself. January is a month to recover from out-of-the-ordinary splurges. It’s also a month to decide on your New Year’s resolution, which could be a great way to jump-start getting back into your usual routine. New Year’s resolutions can be as small as giving up soda, or as big as giving up sweets altogether. Some teens choose to try to lose those extra pounds they have put on during the holidays. I know I indulged in everything that passed my eye, except prunes and Brussels sprouts! Taking a fun class at the YMCA or working out with a friend is my favorite way to exercise, because you get lost in conversation and forget that you’re even working out. If you enjoy riding bikes or rollerblading, Muddy Creek Greenway Trail (behind Meadowlark Middle School) is a great place to do just that! The trail is paved and has beautiful scenery of horses and nature. If you’re a runner, Winston Lake Trail may just be the place for you to let off steam. Winston Lake trail is about 7 miles around and is a challenge to any runner or mountain biker. January is also the halfway point for school. Instead of thinking about slacking off these last months of school, excelling and going that extra mile would be a great surprise for your parents and kickoff to the start of your summer. Using a tutor to help you with your academic struggles is a good way to bring your grades up and assure yourself that you know what you’ll be tested on. Whether you’re taking a class, having tutoring, or spending time with friends, remember that there’s only a small window of time to return those what-were-they-thinking gifts! I hope that all the teens of Forsyth County had a wonderful winter break and a happy New Year!
