A Breath of Fresh Air: A New Perspective on Fitness
I enjoy Mother Nature right now, as the leaves begin to turn and the cooler mornings are settling in daily, take advantage of the great outdoors and exercise.
As a Personal Trainer I highly recommend activities such as, cycling, walking, jogging or outdoor sports to accommodate fitness goals. There are a lot more benefits than muscular strength and endurance outside of the gym, OUTSIDE.
Consider the benefits:
- Work out any time.
- Less visual and mental clutter from people, loud, music and television.
- Relieve stress
- Sleep better
- Researchers recognize these health benefits of outdoor exercise and other outdoor activity.
- One British study reported that depression levels dropped 71% by simply taking walks in the park while, some exercisers experience faster decrease in blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension and stress hormone levels.
- A U.K. study concluded that people engaged in a wide variety of outdoor sports regardless the intensity concluded to be less angry, depressed or tense.
- As a Mother of three school aged children and Physician’s wife, I can testify that this beautiful season bear many germs, therefore an outdoor workout vs. an indoor workout is more beneficial. Gym settings have higher volume of human traffic exposed skin, lots of perspiration and lack of keeping equipment clean.
- Does that mean don’t consider the gym or membership? No. Be considerate and mindful for your sake and other members.
- It’s about changing the venue. Exercises when performed properly can be done anywhere. It’s about being creative while being surrounded by God’s creation.Consider change and take your workout experience outside.
