Ambience and Great Food
Coming to the U.S. when he was only 17, Miguel’s restaurant experience started with jobs as a busboy, from which he worked his way up to server at some of Chicago’s finest restaurants (maybe you remember him from Nick’s Fish Market?). After a few years, Miguel decided to take a break and returned to Mexico where he opened a small café called Café Monaco. It was during this time that Miguel began dreaming of a restaurant back in the U.S.
Miguel realized that there was something special about his dream and he returned to the Chicago area to make it a reality and has for the last five years been living his dream. On Main St. in downtown Lisle you’ll find Miguel fulfilling his passion at Yerbabuena Mexican Restaurant.
Not only is Miguel living his dream, his restaurant is popular because he has developed the right mix of good quality food as well as getting to know his customers, greeting many of them by name.
Much of his success is the quality of the food his early days in his father’s butcher shop gave Miguel the experience to choose quality meats which he still personally selects, while many of the traditional Mexican dishes on the menu are enhanced with his mother’s recipes.
In addition to the traditional Mexican dishes, Miguel has a flair for putting together unique taste combinations, such as his mango fajitas with either jalapeno, shrimp or chicken. And if there is a particular combination that you don’t see on the menu, just ask Miguel and his staff welcome special requests!
Tastefully painted and decorated in regal purples and reds, the lower lighting and Mexican artifacts provide a comfortable, non-smoking environment for enjoying your meal.
In nice weather, patrons can enjoy their meals in the outdoor seating area.
No Mexican restaurant would be complete without Margaritas, and while Yerbabuena will make them to order, Miguel is especially proud to serve them using a high quality tequila produced by his uncle.
Running a successful restaurant can be a challenge, but Miguel has never regretted the many hours he has put in as he feels Yerbabuena has enriched his life in ways he never thought possible. He personifies the name of his restaurant Yerbabuena is about a quality of living where spending time with family and friends are essential for us to have balance in life.
The next time you’re in the mood for quality Mexican fiesta, getting together for a mid day snack, or starting the day with breakfast, make your way over to Yerbabuena and tell Miguel you read about Yerbabuena in DuPage Woman NewspaperTM. You’ll wonder how it is still a best kept secret!
