Sassy & Classy Boutique- Where shopping is All in the Name!

Forsyth Woman Magazine (NC) Jan 2012

From the moment you walk into Sassy & Classy Boutique you know there is something different, and that difference is not only in the trendy and sassy items and one of a kind classy buys, but in the feel that Shellen Phillips has given her shop.  “Family has always been very important to me and I wanted to incorporate pieces of my family’s history in the shop, giving the boutique a shabby chic decor.  I used tin from my grandfather’s old barn to build part of the counter where the cash register sits, doors from my grandparents’ homes, and old furniture pieces and antique suitcases that my great-grandmother owned to display my merchandise.  It means a lot to come to work every day and see these special things from my life and family combined with the unique items that I have in my boutique.  To me they go hand in hand,” commented Shellen.

A Life-Long Dream
Sassy & Classy Boutique opened almost 3 months ago, fulfilling a life-long dream of Shellen’s, of being her own boss and of having a boutique that is different from any other  retail shop.  I left a full time job with benefits, a steady and predictable income, to step out on a limb with Sassy & Classy.  But the entire process was bathed in prayer, from the first thought of it to actually taking the step to locate and open a retail space.  My family has been, and continues to be, a huge supporter of the business.  All along the way, I continued to have prayers answered, leading me to know that this is something that is blessed and I hope I can, in return, be a blessing to my customers,” Shellen said.

A Boutique that is Quite Chic
What’s in a name?  Well, at Sassy & Classy Boutique, quite a lot!  From clothing, to jewelry, to candles, to baby and children’s items, to home accessories…there’s not much that Shellen Phillips hasn’t worked into her eclectic boutique.  “There is definitely a little something for everyone. We have great gift items at affordable prices.  I am a huge supporter of local artists and several of my lines, including jewelry, blankets and messages in a bottle, are by local artisans.  I am also offering a unique candle line called ‘Eco Dotz,’ which is a soy wax candle that customers create by choosing and mixing their scents, which makes the candle uniquely theirs.  Customers can bring their jars back in to refill for a discounted price, or they have the option to buy individual scented pouches.  As customers continue to browse, they will find great gifts or perhaps a little something to treat themselves with,” stated Shellen.

Much More Than You Might Expect…
Because Shellen wants to keep her merchandise trendy, she is always on the lookout for new items.  “A neat gift idea is ‘The Man Can’ which is a paint can with grooming essentials in it.  We have a similar gift set for women, called ‘Happy Feet,’ and both are very popular with customers.  Then there are the beautiful handmade purses, created from recycled saris, and shabby & chic rose head bands, now with coordinating belts.  There is always something new coming into the boutique, so each visit will be a new experience for my customers,” Shellen said.
For Shellen Phillips, everything at Sassy & Classy Boutique has a personal history and a meaning to her, and she hopes to have a long history with her shop and develop what is most important to her:  relationships with her customers in the years to come.
